LA MER Might be Worth its Weight in Gold

by Cynthia De La Torre –

I know that times are tough and we tend to skimp on beauty products like night creams and makeup. You used to buy Mac now you buy L’Oreal HIP because the packaging looks just like MAC and what the hell- you’re sold!
I’m totally for saving a couple bucks especially since I skip the pedicures during the winter and wear close –toed shoes.
However, I tried a face cream called LA MER that is quite expensive. I originally heard about it via my doctor’s wife, but I never actually saw it in person until I spent the night at my friend, Julie’s house.
I secretly tried Julie’s husband’s stash of LA MER moisturizing cream- he’s an executive vice-president somewhere so I figured he wouldn’t mind sharing with a poor marketing director.
Ever since that night I could not stop thinking about how great my face felt the next morning- softy and silky.
Later, I asked Julie about the product and she swore by THE LA MER like it was gold! Ever since Julie moved here from Seattle, her skin has become very dry and she says LA MER is the only product that moisturizes her dry skin.
Julie talked me out of my Arbonne skin-care line and started figuring out how I could afford THE LA MER.
The conclusion- I gave up my two regular (fifty-dollar ) facials a month to justify buying the 190 dollar oil- free moisturizing lotion-since my skin is more oily than dry the LA MER representative thought I would benefit from the oil-free moisturizing lotion better than the moisturizing cream.
***It is less expensive at Saks Fifth Avenue than it is at Neimen Marcus (twenty-dollars less expensive for the oil free lotion and ten-dollars less expensive for the cream).
What really sold me on the product was when Julie told me about the history behind LA MER. She said a physicist – who had burns on his face, invented the cream. So… I thought if it cures burns it is sure to cure my occasional breakouts and large pores, and I might not have to get the Botox in a couple of years, it’s a win-win.
I recommend you go by the LA MER counter and ask or demand some LA MER samples, Julie and I have noticed the LA MER reps have been a little stingy with their samples lately, so give it up LA MER reps! It’s not gold! Not literally anyway.

History of Crème de la Mer

Crème de la Mer was invented by Dr. Max Huber, an aerospace physicist who suffered severe chemical burns when a routine experiment exploded in his face.  Dr Huber could find no formulations on the market to alleviate his condition, so he focused his intellectual pursuits on developing a solution.

Twelve years and 6,000 experiments later, Dr. Huber successfully concocted a Miracle Broth that is central to all La Mer products.  The La Mer Miracle Broth consists of sea kelp, which possesses anti-microbial properties; the nutrients calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and lecithin; vitamins C, E and B-12; and oils of eucalyptus, sunflower, wheat germ, alfalfa and citrus.  This concoction is painstakingly fermented for three to four months to release the vital energies of each ingredient, then distilled.
